First week...

I know it has been a long time since I updated this blog but I was very very busy.

Check in was a long process that lasted about three or four hours, and then it was time to move in. The next day was our off day, Logan, Matt and I went to Downtown Disney ate lunch and shopped around since we could not have access to the parks yet.

Wednesday all we had to do was go to the Housing meeting which was about an hour long. As we arrived to the housing meeting at The Commons, one of the other attendees had a seizure. She had been standing right next to me, and it was odd to see that up close. She ended up being okay which was good to hear. After the housing meeting the rain poured down on us as we made our way back to Chatham.

Thursday was Traditions which was 4 and a half hours long, and I don't think I can say much about it other than I toured Magic Kingdom and got my name tag! I also got to meet Mickey! He gave me a small Donald Duck toy for answering a question correct!

Friday was another day of training, I had my Food and Beverage class that day, that lasted until 12:30, I also got my shoes that day.

Saturday was my off day, I said goodbye to my parents, and hung out with the roommates.

Sunday was Orientation which included another tour of Magic Kingdom, and some more training.

Monday was an off day, I went to the outlets with Matt and two other CP's.

Tuesday was my first real day. I learned some more in training and then was actually put on register, which I have become comfortable with. I also learned I'm no good at making ice cream cups just yet. But hopefully I can learn soon.

Sorry for not a lot of detail, and sorry for the lack of updating, I hope to update more frequently.

Thanks For reading,
Jordan.

The Journey Continues...

So we had to stop. At around 3:45 we pulled into the dimly lit Days Inn, got our room and slept for a quick 4 hours before getting right back on the road. Around 1:30 pm, we arrived at Old Key West and checked in, ate lunch at Olivia's, and went to the room.

I finally met the guys. I had already met Rich at a Philadelphia Union game, but it was time to finally meet Logan and Matt. They all seem great, and Matt kicked our butts at bowling. After bowling we got to know each other and then walked around Downtown Disney for a few hours before heading back to our hotels.

Tomorrow is my first day, The four of us will check into the housing and learn our assignments, where we finally learn where we will be working. I will update once we move in and get settled.

Thanks,
Jordan

The journey begins...

Packing is finished. I stared at my half empty room for a good bit before turning out of there and loading up my car. It looked weird, and bizarre without having my 22 inch television on top of my cable box. The even more bizarre part was realizing that last night was the last night I would spend in my house for five months. It still hasn't quite hit me that I am leaving for five months instead of the usual one week to Disney. I don't think it will quite hit me until my first week is up and I have become accustomed to life in Orlando.

I won't be able to update this blog as I drive, but I will take notes when my mom is driving and update once I'm settled in.

Thanks for reading,

Jordan Wiegand

The Process

For those of you who stumbled across this blog and are interested in the process of applying, I will briefly overview the process of applying for the Disney College Program.

I followed the Disney College Program on twitter (https://twitter.com/DisneyCPInterns) and one day they posted that new applications for the fall was being accepted. I quickly jumped up from the couch and made my way to the computer. I did not know how fast they would fill the positions so I just ran to the computer and started to fill out the application (http://cp.disneycareers.com/en/default/). I filled out what jobs I would want and basically filled out any job that they had. I wanted to make sure I was getting to Florida.

The next bit of the process was the Web based Interview. It sounds scary but it is very simple. They will ask a question and you have to fill out your answer of the scale of Strongly disagree to strongly Agree. Answer honestly, they'll know if you don't.

After the web based Interview is complete, they will tell you if you qualify for the phone interview, or if you did not meet the requirements. They sent an email the day of the web based interview and I had to log on and schedule my phone interview. I scheduled it two weeks from the day. I was constantly looking at Disney blogs and Disboards for help and to read what the interview would be like. I was stressing. But once the phone rang and I answered I was fine.

The Phone interview is nothing to be scared about. I answered the phone, "Hello this is Jordan," and remembered to jot down the phone interviewer's name on the notepad in front of me. Most things I read said to bring her name up at the end of the interview when I say thanks. I don't know if it affects much but it was worth a shot. The interview was basic questions about myself and what my top 3 job choices, Attractions, Merchandise, and Quick Service Food and Beverage were. They ask you questions about these jobs and more to see what job is best for you.

Five days after my phone interview I got an email that said I had been accepted and to accept the job within 10 days. I quickly accepted my quick service food and beverage job and called all my family to let them know.

I hope this helps you if you stumbled across this and want to join the Disney College Program. Or if you were interested on what I had went through to get to the point I am at now.

A week to go...

Back in February I was accepted in the Disney College Program. As each day passes it becomes more and more real that I am about to embark on the biggest challenge in my life, and actually be working in the place I have been visiting my entire life, Walt Disney World.
My family and I go to Disney World every year, I have even been to Disneyland and Disneyland Paris, I will always love it, it is my second home. But now I will literally be living in Disney World. It will literally be my home. I decided to make this blog to document my journey, and experiences and hopefully, if there are any readers, convert you to apply for the Disney College Program.
